So What Is the Underground Chopper Build Off?

The Chopper Underground was started as a magazine 8 years ago with a forum attached. The magazine went bust and the forum continued to be a great learning resource for choppers built at the lower end of the pay scale.

After the Biker Build off TV shows started various chopper sites started their own versions including the Underground. Done over 3 months with basic rules it's been a mostly fun thing ever since. Building a bike over 3 months sounds easy right? Wrong, it’s a lot of hard work and most starters fall by the wayside before the finish.

Having competed many times I know too well and it's a lot different to the way the guys on the TV do it. In a contest were ingenuity, original ideas and doing it yourself are praised it’s great entertainment. Many of the past winners have gone on to be featured in magazines like The Horse and others. It's a contest were a guy with no clue and a ratty Honda can go against their peers and make themselves a better builder in the process.

For me this is my 5th time around and after coming close before this might just be my year. But it's not about winning its about finishing. It's not the destination it's the journey and the experience of building a functioning chopper in 90 days is one hell of a journey. Now if you don't mind , there are only 60 days left to go and I have a bike to build so I better get to it.
